Tesla vs. Waymo: The Trillion Dollar Robotaxi Battle

The robotaxi war is heating up, and this time it could be a trillion-dollar battle! On one hand, Tesla. Their upcoming Robotaxi could cost just $22,000 to build. Simple design, just two seats, plastic panels. Elon Musk claims Tesla could ramp up to 500,000 cars a year by 2027. 

On the other hand, Waymo. Their Jaguar I-Pace robotaxis cost about $70,000 each, oh, that’s before you add $12,000 for LiDAR sensors. Even switching to the Hyundai Ioniq 5, that’s still $50,000 a vehicle. 

Waymo already runs 250,000 rides a week across five U.S. markets, but scaling is painfully slow. Mapping and testing every new city could take years. 

Not to mention the most embarrassing report released by Bloomberg about the broken promises from, you guess it,  both of them 

While Waymo leads today, Tesla’s low-cost, high-scale bet could flip the script. The question is… who wins first?  

But robotaxis aren’t Musk’s only bet on autonomy. He’s also chasing robots that look like us.  

Tesla’s Robot Dream Running Late (AGAIN)?

Do you remember the cool humanoid robots from Tesla’s ‘We, Robot’ Event in 2024 ?  

Well, Elon Musk says Tesla’s Optimus robots are here to raise our children, take care of the older people, and do all the house chores. They’ll make us live like king and queen or …in some cases, replace some of us. Well, some competitors are already shipping home robots and selling unfinished prototypes.

How does this work exactly? you ask. Musk just told us they could soon cost as little as $20,000 to $30,000, and you can have it by renting  per hour .

Tesla’s big plan to build 5,000 Optimus humanoid robots this year… might be slipping again. 

You see, we’re already eight months into 2025, and Tesla only manages to produce a few hundred of those robots. That’s far from the bold target of 5,000 robots. 

And this update comes right after Tesla reported a 12% drop in Q2 revenue. Tesla’s EV sales, solar and even storage sales all took a hit. 

But Elon Musk seems quite calm and optimistic. On the Q2 earnings call, he teased the Optimus 3 design coming early 2026. 

He promised, “We’ll scale production as fast as possible… a million units a year in under five years.” 

But here’s the kicker: we all remember that in 2019, he promised a million robotaxis by 2020… and then again by 2024. 

Big vision, big goals… but the real question is: can Tesla actually deliver this time? 

While Tesla struggles with delays, Elon Musk is expecting the trillion-dollar prize after planting the seeds for years. But here’s the question: what do you give a man who can already buy anything? Well, maybe the title of world’s first trillionaire would make him feel overjoyed. And on the AI side? He was busy pulling off a magical move. 

How come X acquired X AI?

What if I told you Elon Musk just made his own companies… buy each other? 

In March 2025, xAI acquired X in a $33B all-stock deal. Feels like Elon Musk’s shuffling his pocket, right? 

But, this isn’t just moving money around, so what exactly is Musk cooking up? 

Remember Grok? Musk’s chatbot was already integrated into X ( aka. Twitter ). Now, with 600M users, it’s got the perfect playground. 

And the secret sauce? Multimedia training data. X feeds xAI with real-time text, images, and videos. The raw fuel every AI company is chasing, including OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and Meta. 

That means Musk isn’t just building AI models in a lab. He’s mixing them with modern culture, your posts, your feeds. They know how you feel and what you care about.  

For investors, it’s nicer and cleaner: one cap table, one valuation story, one path to a $100B+ company. 

For Elon Musk, it’s control. He owns the media and the AI. This isn’t a merger. Because Elon Musk believes that AI and social media are now inseparable.

Neuralink Expands the Human Mind

Neuralink just hit a new milestone: two BCI surgeries in one day. That’s quite impressive, isn’t it ?

BCI stands for brain–computer interface. It links a person’s nervous system to a computer, translating brain signals into digital commands. Think chess, gaming, even scrolling on X without lifting a finger, like Professor X in X-Men. 

We saw it first with Noland Arbaugh, who was paralysed after a 2016 accident. His Neuralink chip let him move a cursor with pure thoughts, play video games, and even message friends. 

Now, the eighth and ninth participants have joined the trial. Neuralink says both are recovering well and “in great spirits.” 

The current focus is clear: people with spinal cord injuries or motor neuron diseases, where movement fades over time. But Musk’s vision? Far bigger chips restoring memory, speech, even mobility.

And thank goodness he didn’t add: ‘maybe we’ll integrate it with X.com and Grok AI, push ads and premium subscriptions, at least that’s what happened in Black Mirror on Netflix.

Early trials test safety and function. Long term? Neuralink will extend it to millions, maybe billions.

So, robotaxis, humanoids, AI-powered social media, brain chips. One by one, Elon Musk is building pieces of a masterplan: AI that doesn’t just run on your phone, but in your car, your social media feeds, maybe even your mind.
